Just saw this quote attributed to Don Brash:
“Radio New Zealand plays an important role in the overall radio scene. I don’t always agree with the editorial line … but that is not the point,” he said.
“Programmes such as Checkpoint, Morning Report and international coverage give a dimension commercial radio does not. It may be the lack of commercial interruption, but RNZ is able to focus on serious issues more substantively than commercial radio.
“I’d be very sad indeed to see the disappearance of Radio New Zealand.”
It just seems weird he said that, because it seems to go against a lot of what I understand of Act philosophy. I thought it was more like:
“We should cut all Government funding to Radio NZ. It will survive if the market demands the service. Screw you hand-wringing, public broadcasting-loving hippies!”
I don’t get the Act Party.
